Once Upon a Frame

Through Shadows by Todd Carpenter, a series of black and white paintings that make the familiar abstract and the abstract familiar Todd uses black and white paint, and his training as a scientist, to create paintings that invoke landscapes as a singular concept rather than as a particular place. Through the play of shadow and light, he invites the viewer to take a leap of imagination, whether into their own past experience or a fantastical inner world, where his simplified abstractions generate an emotional and imaginative response, a sense of being in a space we call landscape.
